The creator economy has fundamentally changed how people build careers. Today, anyone with a phone and a perspective can theoretically reach millions. But the reality is more complicated. Most creators earn very little. Platforms take a large cut of revenue, and algorithms determine visibility - not quality. The creators who succeed are typically those who treat it like a business: choosing a niche, posting consistently, diversifying income streams across sponsorships, merchandise, courses, and subscriptions. The mental health costs are also high. The pressure to post constantly, deal with public criticism, and maintain audience engagement is significant. Still, for a growing number of people, the creator economy offers something traditional employment does not: full control.
๐ก Did you know? The top 1% of creators earn more than 90% of all creator economy revenue. The distribution of income is even more unequal than traditional media.
