Numbers are everywhere in daily life. We use them for dates, times, ages, prices, and phone numbers. In English, dates are said with ordinal numbers: the first of January, the fifteenth of March. Years are said in pairs: 2026 is 'twenty twenty-six'. Phone numbers are said one digit at a time: 07700 900123 is 'zero seven seven zero zero, nine zero zero one two three'. Prices use 'pounds' or 'euros': €15.50 is 'fifteen euros fifty'. Learning numbers well makes every conversation easier.

💡 Did you know? The number zero was invented in India around 500 AD. Before zero existed, mathematics was much more complicated. It is one of the most important inventions in human history.
